Day 8 -- Thursday, June 24 -- "High Flying"

Day 8 -- Leaving Oregon - flying to Idaho and Wyoming

The Snake River is very long.  Here you see it as we arrive at Burley, ID (KBYI).

When we reached KBYI, we met a man who flew his plane from Alaska to Kitty Hawk, NC to learn more about the Wright Brothers.   He decided that the USA was tooooo hot and he was on his way back to Alaska ASAP!   Kevin, the owner of the FBO, was helping him fix a possible issue on his RV, named Cloud Dancer.  This was interesting because when Tamra and I raced in the All Women's Air Race Classic, our team name was Cloud Dancers.

Claudette is really good about chatting with the people we meet and learning a lot about them.

Here is the fuel truck.  The guy (I'm sorry we forgot your name.)  looks like my nephew.

Flying IFR - I follow rivers or I follow roads.  It is a good idea to follow rivers or road in the mountains because the terrain is usually lower.  Keep the river or road on your left and just follow it.

The Snake River coming into Jackson Hole, WY.

Here we are at 14,000 -- Density Altitude about 16,000.
MOJO performed magnificently at high altitudes.
By the way, now we have started dressing alike.

Here is our Dynon panel at 14,000.

The Teton Mountains are REALLY high.

                                                                Teton Pass at 14,000.

We were interested to see many female line crew at Jackson Hole.  Jules is one and is a student pilot.  Jules is very strong and could easily move MOJO, even with her castering nose wheel.

No hangar in Jackson Hole.  WaWaWa!!

I am proud of  little amount of luggage we brought with us.  I think this is quite good for ladies who like to bring it all.  However, I think the bags are getting heavier.  We were sure we would be stronger by the end of this trip for lifting the bags in and out of the airplane every day.

  1. "FLYING SO HIGH" :-)!
I love it. I like the instrument (Dynon) photos they really help to know what is going on!

I think this is a record ALTITUDE for Claudette in a GA aircraft! Good on you 'SHEILAS'

Keep it 'UP' ladies of the air!

Cloud Dancer has quite a paint job, really nice! What does the Alaskan pilot expect, it is summer time??? Though he did pick a particularly 'warm' summer :-)

    Hugs,
    Dan Miller
