Day 4 -- June 20, 2021 Father's Day -- "Hidden Gem"

We met with other 99s to start the Classic Air Tour from
Jackson, TN - Lake Havasu, AZ
These ladies love flying adventures, including 95 year old Marie Carastro who has flown in
women's air races all the way back to the Powder Puff Derby.

Departing KMKL
Thank you Jo Ann Speer and crew for taking such good care of us.

Base Leg arriving at 1H0 -- Creve Coeur, MO

Final 1H0 -- This is a gem of an airport.

Beginning with Airport Manager Bob Cameron providing his hangar for MOJO.

We were invited to stay for a delicious lunch.  They provide a bar-be-que lunch every Sunday.

We got to know Gary Pride, a retired police officer, who is now the manager of  Poplar Bluff Airport.  Unbelievably he lives in the area where Claudette grew up and knows her family members.
You never know who you will meet at a small general aviation airport.

We met 49 1/2, Tim.  His wife, Jill who is a 99,  was not there but we had a nice chat with Tim.

Dalton provided us with a private tour of the four hangars filled with aircraft.

What a great museum of about 60 aircraft from WWI - WWII AND the plane that Robert Redford flew in the movie, The Great Waldo Pepper.
The owners of the airport collected and restored all of the airplanes.  Most of them are flyable and go to OshKosh and other fly-ins.

Gateway Arch of St. Louis  --  Gateway to western expansion designed by Eero Saarinen.
You just can't visit St. Louis without visiting the arch.

We finished the evening with dinner at downtown St. Charles at The Lewis and Clark Restaurant.
This district has cobblestone streets aligned with boutiques, shops, and eateries.
Whew! What a full day!
