Day 6 - Tuesday, June 22, 2021 - "Spectacular View"

Day 6 -- NE to SD to ND to MT

What do you see between Nebraska and South Dakota?  The Badlands.

They are desolate but the pictures do not capture the full impact.

Look who we ran into at KRAP -- Rapid City, SD

Susan, Marie, and Daniella Carastro,  Classic Air Tour participants.

Here is Ray, line technician extraordinaire.  Ray immediately welcomed us and helped fuel and                  clean MOJO.  Everyone was kind and welcoming at KRAP.

Flying by Mount Rushmore was a highlight for Myra.  Winds were conducive for an up close and personal view and was more impressive than looking at the monument from the ground.

Here we are at Bowman Regional Airport, ND.
The runways were well maintained and the FBO was clean and neat but there was not a soul to be seen.

We did find a nice plaque indicating that Bowman was awarded the 2016 Airport of the Year designation.

We have been amazed at how many airports where we've landed that have no planes or just one or two.
We saw two planes on the Bowman ramp.

After arriving at Lewistown, MT, we fueled MOJO and met Gary.  His mom was a 99.

99s painted the Lewistown Airport markings with its name.

Gary helped put MOJO in the large hangar and loaned us a courtesy car overnight.  Claudette moved from  driving a diesel truck to a classic Oldsmobile sedan with the keys permanently attached to the steering column to prevent loss of the key.

Here is Miller Street -- placed here in honor of Dan Miller, Claudette's husband.

Lewistown Historic Courthouse with a beautiful clock tower.

We stayed at the YOGO Inn, named for the yogo sapphire gem that was mined in the area.
We were told that the yogo sapphire is harder than a diamond.

There are lots of trails around the Lewistown Watershed.

                                                                Bears at the YOGO Inn.
