Day 5 - Monday, June 21, 2021 - "Giddy-Up"

We had a wild ride today -- Iowa, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Nebraska.  The winds were gusting to 30 K all along our route.  The winds made it a particular challenge when we had to self fuel.

Our view leaving 1H0.  What great people and a great FBO!

KMUT - Muscatine, Iowa -- a memorable place????

We struggled to land in Wisconsin during our eastern flying adventure and had to give up.  We weren't sure we would make it this year either but here we are in Platteville, Wisconsin (KPVB).

This was the windiest place so far.  It was a challenge to self fuel.
No one was around to help until we finished fueling MOJO ourselves.
AND the fuel ramp was on a slope.
AND it was so windy that it blew Claudette's iPad off the wing and our business cards all over the ramp.

Then we met Ian, an instructor, and Andy, doing maintenance.

Our Minnesota stop was MOTG  --  Worthington Municipal

Jake was so sweet and he helped fuel MOJO.
Jake is an instructor and A&P.  He will be flying mission flights

KOTG -- nice runway and FBO space

                                                                Windsock at KOTG

                                                                On our way to Minnesota

But we just couldn't get out of Iowa.

Have you ever thought of visiting Ainsworth, NE (KANW)??

We couldn't imagine a more desolate place but there was nothing there.

Except Lance and a big hangar.
We are sorry that we do not have a picture but we learned a new technique to open the heavy hangar door.

Lance was kind enough to loan us a courtesy car / truck overnight.  Here it is.

Claudette has become an expert diesel truck driver.

We saw lots of green cornfields in Ainsworth.

There were 2 restaurants in the town.  Big John's was one.  We ate at the other one.

  2. Hi Aviatrix(s),
These are great! Thanks so much for keeping us all up to date on your most incredible journey. Thus far, today is my first time to stop and vicariously enjoy all that you have done to date.

Making a quick scroll through I stopped at several images and postings. Reviewing all this about you two, made me a bit emotional. The thoughts of how hard you two have worked for this for the past year plus, the training, planning, dedication, steadfast focus, believing in yourselves that this day would arrive and you’re continuing to work to achieve a goal only a few can say they have done and none of them have done it like you two! Wow, brought some moisture to my eyes thinking of you.

Anyway for me, two of the really outstanding highlights viewing your blog; 1) The aerial photo of Mount Rushmore! That's definitely a KEEPER! Definitely one for framing! I GOT TO HAVE it (the original) to make a nice framed print for you two!

Can anyone guess what the second most impressive image was for me?

    Did you guess it yet?

Okay, you knew all along didn't you!

    2) Yes it was the 'MILLER' street sign. 'DY - NO - MITE'! I LOVED IT! Thank you for sharing?

To the rest of you reading this, I did ask them to make a Zero Dark Thirty S.A.R. with a wrench and take the souvenir for me!
Funny I never got a response. I guess this request is right up there with “Did you think about flying under the Saint Louie Gateway Arch? “. That would be worth a photo and a LOT MORE :-)

More later, keep it coming pilots!

Love and HUGE HUGS to you both! Sorry Roger no offense meant, but in my book they deserve all the love, hugs and admiration they can get.

    Very well done pilots!

  3. NOTE: I'm not sure why or what happened but when I previously tried to Post using Mozilla Firefox I received and error message as follows:

Anyway, I did get my post to go via MS Edge browser!

I'll try Mozilla again another time to see if I
get the same result. I need to go back to 2019 to see what I used then?

    Cheers,

  5. Okay! This time the post was successful via Firefox! Still don't know why I received the error message from before. Now it appears to be working okay!

Thanks for your patience in reading this while I try to figure out what happened.
