Day 4 — VA and West Virginia: Hurricane Ridge

I grew up in Tazewell, VA so our Virginia stop had to be Tazewell County Airport - a quick stop, taxi back, and take off.  It is a cute airport on top of a mountain with a breezy final approach over tall trees. We radioed the gentleman in the FBO about our adventure. He mentioned that he also graduated from Tazewell High School.

Then we had a very short flight to Bluefield, WVa.  Bluefield was the airport from where I took my very  first flight when I was nine years old.  Jim, the maintenance guy said, “If you can fly to this airport, you can fly anywhere,”. Then when my friend, Cindy, picked us up, she said the nickname for Bluefield is “Hurricane Ridge,”  Yikkes, I’m I’m glad we didn’t know that before we landed.

  1. Good morning LADIES,
Wow, Myra it is great to know a little more of your background and beginnings. Absolutely Tazewell and Bluefield. Knowing this about your history, it is an absolute MUST STOP. What memories must be evoked by your return?
They're great looking airports in what appears and sounds like great heart of America communities. Makes me want to plan another trip with Claudette so she can take me around to all these cool, tucked away airports and towns. Terrific story about 'Hurricane Ridge'. CONGRATULATIONS to you both for finding these runways and putting 'MOJO' down in good form.
