May 9, 2023 - Hey Y'all we are in Savannah, GA

Savannah, GA is the hospitality city of the south.  It has beautiful coastal landscapes, beautiful architecture, and rich history.  Visiting Savannah is like stepping back in time.  Savannah is charming.  Savannah is the setting for several movies, including Forrest Gump and Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil.

We took a tour through the historic part of Savannah on a Trolley.

Juliet Lowe, founder of the Girl Scouts, lived in Savannah.  This is important to me because I have been mentoring a young lady who is working on her Girl Scout Gold Award.  She is trying to re-incorporate the flying badge/project into the Girl Scouts.  The Boy Scouts still have an aviation badge / project and they boys can fly.

Many people told us about the best fried chicken ever!!!  We couldn't wait to taste some.                            We walked many steps to get there.  Thankfully, I asked what kind of oil they used to cook                                      the chicken in.  Guess what?  They cook the chicken in peanut oil!!!

We had a nice, short, VFR flight from St. Augustine, FL to Savannah, GA.

Hungry and looking for a good restaurant (and shopping),

we walked on the cobblestone street near the River Walk.

May 7, 2023 -- St. Augustine, FL The Oldest City in the US.

We only had one day in St. Augustine so we started  the day by riding the Trolley around town to learn about the history and interesting sites.

                                                                Here is our bus driver.

Too bad we didn't get to dip in the Fountain of Youth.

We couldn't turn down an opportunity to walk and shop on St. George Street, the Pedestrian Mall.

What a great surprise!  Jessica saw my post on Facebook and we were excited to be able to have dinner together and for me to meet Luca.  I was a week late for The 99s SE Section Meeting.  Oops.

Saturday, May 6, 2023 -- Ducking and Dodging Weather

Here Claudette and I are ready for our next flying adventure -

First stop St. Augustine, FL.
Claudette has never been there and we've talked about visiting there for a while.

We delayed leaving North Perry because of weather in St. Augustine and along our route.  We planned to get to Melbourne and wait it out.  Thankfully, I looked ahead and saw unpleasant weather over Melbourne.  We looked down and there was Vero Beach below us so we decided to land and re-evaluate.

We finally took off toward St. Augustine.

Here is our flight path.  We ducked and dodged weather along the way.

Here is MOJO parked for the night at St. Augustine.

Thursday, May 4, 2023 -- Flight Planning

When you fly in a general aviation airplane, one must be flexible.  Since our first idea didn't work because of unacceptable weather, here we are planning our next adventure.

Having fun planning our next adventure.  Plan B is to fly to St. Augustine, FL, Concord, NC (Claudette is looking at purchasing a Cessna 182 located there.), then Savannah, GA, Niagara Falls, and home.

Flight planning is done.  Now we need to contact airports before we land there.  We are so glad that we make contacting airports before landing a consistent strategy.  If not, we would've landed at a couple of airports during previous trips and not been able to leave because of construction and closing the airport.

Mom, you aren't leaving me again, are you?  Precious is overseeing our work.

Last Day Leaving Kentucky -- May 2, 2023

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Louisville and surrounding areas.  We are sorry to say, "Good-Bye."

Everywhere we drove, we traversed across the brightly colored yellow, no toll, bridge.

This was new to us.  At the Louisville Airport, we met Debbie and Maggie.

Maggie is a therapy dog that goes around the airport to help make anxious passengers calm.

Maggie brings a smile to everyone.

Mount Lavender Bakery and The ARK Encounter -- Monday, May 1, 2023

We saw a personal interest story about Mount Lavender Bakery on TV.  We just had to go there to have lunch.  I'm not sure why we didn't take pictures inside but everything was infused with lavender.  They had lavender flavored olive oil, vinegar, honey, teas, spices, and cookies.  The store was filled with interesting lavender items.  The lavender fields were a few miles away.

On our last day in the Louisville / Lexington area, we drove to the ARK Encounter.  It was fascinating.  This modern day ark is built according to the dimensions in the Bible.  Spanning 510 feet long (300 cubits long), 85 feet wide (50 cubits wide), and 51 feet high (30 cubits high), it is an amazing work of engineering.  NASA could lay three space shuttles - nose to tail - on the arks roof!

We were impressed with the way it is thought that the animals were kept.  There was an ingenious method for feeding the animals and cleaning up their excrement.
